I find the approach of some people to understand God, Nature or creation through science, a little too crude. To me science is no the tool to understand God. Doing so is similar to losing a diamond ring in the dark, but searching it under the light only because that region is bright. Reminds me of an old Tamil song "irukkum idathai vittu illatha idam thedi....."
My claim is that by nature, Human beings are not made for being able to understand God or creation or nature, you call it by whatever name. I think everyone here accepts evolution here as fact, so I ll try and explain my claim better through the same. If evolution is taken to be right, then human beings are nothing but a collection of a large number of living cells that has over millions of years learned to live together and reproduce similar collection of cells. In the process, these collection of cells have also learned to pick up certain signals like sound, light, smell, etc., It is to be stated that, we must have learned these senses, because they must have helped us survive the tests of nature better. Moreover,we have also developed intelligence and data processing capacity.(If I am not wrong, I think humans have the best data processing capacity compared to any other living thing)
So, in my opinion if the ability to understand creation is not a essential criteria for survival, then nature might not gift such a capacity to a living being. But, intelligence can have a role to play too. Like, we might not be able to produce fire directly. but we can alter out surroundings in suitable ways to create fire. Is science such a tool? It need not be.
If we try and understand science in detail, the most defining factor that makes science different is that the theories being dealt with should be measurable or observable. But, measureablity and observability are completely dependent on the ability of the humans. Nature might have decided not to give certain abilities to humans, for they might not have had an effect in passing the tests of evolution. So, is there any certainty if we claim that we have all the abilities necessary for having a complete understanding for creation?
The other point that I would like be noticed is, that our processing capacity might not be enough to understand the Universe. Like, our brain is finite, while Universe is infinite (at least that what my brain says, like a 4 digit calculator would tell you 10,000 is infinite) We have more processing capacity compared to ancient living beings, in the same lines our future generation might have better capacities and hence they might comprehend Creation and Nature better!
More simply put, Universe is like a software program. Living beings are like end users. Scientists are like people who try and understand programs that make the software. They might help us troubleshoot better or make use of the modules of the software to enhance it. But, at max they can figure out the complete codes behind the software, but I am skeptic if they will ever find something about the creator, call it God or Nature. I am not surprised to see science has met a deadend after figuring out the rules that guided creation. Because, science always give you a set of rules. Laws of motion, thermodynamic laws, etc.,
P. S. I am an agnostic theist.
I might not be apt person to give any view but i would like to do so.
ReplyDeleteNature & science are consider as 2 banks of a river thats cannot meet but we can try for travelling in peace.
God has created nature [as per theists]but human using science and brains are knowing wonders created by God instead they have started to poke their nose into each and evrything and thats not good.
Its man evoluted to most admirable being but does any1 can predict nature so exactly and its not time to argue but rather to understand some rules and boundaries driven by invisible God.
